10x10 is an annual Toronto exhibition of 100 portraits celebrating queers in the arts, taken by 10 queer photographers. As longing, loss and vulnerability are the focus of my practice, for my 10x10 portraits I chose an approach and location that would allow me to explore these themes with my participants, without hopefully crossing any lines; I photographed my 10 participants in their bathing suits, allowing for a reflection on the ways in which many queer and trans people face difficulties in negotiating our bodies within public pool spaces. The strength to be vulnerable is a tried and true strategy of queer resistance, and I wanted to capture the way that this is embodied in these ten beautiful and brilliant people.
